Stellaria media, commonly known as chickweed, is an annual herb native to Europe, also widespread across Asia and North America. Thriving in lawns, sidewalks, and open areas, it has been valued in traditional European herbal practices for centuries. Its fresh leaves are edible raw in salads, while the dried herb is commonly used to make chickweed tea, infused in vinegars, tinctured, or incorporated into skincare products.
Chickweed is easily identified by its straggling, succulent stems, paired leaves, and small, white, star-shaped flowers. Belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family, it grows in diverse regions worldwide, including the North Arctic.
